Ibrah Silas Jackson (2000) is a director and choreographer from Rotterdam with roots in Uganda. His foundation in creating lies in hiphop culture, but he also gained more knowledge about different movement disciplines such as contemporary, funk styles and african cultural styles. The core of his work exists of storytelling through visual arts and movements. Ibrah made different short movies and videoclips as director, is a dancer of Ghetto Funk Collective and started choreographing theater pieces in 2021.

Lloydscompany sees in Ibrah a very talented maker who is not only in the field of dance, but also visuals and film. Ibrah is typically a maker who does not make via the known paths or writes plans easily, but simply does with the few resources he has.

Until the Quiet Comes Together with three young dancers (Juan Jose Markes, Angel Felix and Sirak Solomoon Areguy), he created the short performance Until the Quiet Comes, about the experiences of a young man of colour, under the banner Create4. Lloydscompany supported him in this on an artistic and business level and gave him and the dancers an initial budget to create this performance. Our fundraiser also sat down with him for his follow-up plans. He performed this new piece at the Breakin’ Convention’ Netherlands Tour.

The Hereditary At the Breakin’ Convention he participated in Back to the Lab at and made a preview of The Hereditary. This duet with Angel Felix explores the deep-seated, toxic masculinity that is passed down from generation to generation; sometimes actively through a father present, and other times precisely through the absence of a father figure. In a physical dialogue mixed with hip-hop dance, they share their experiences and learn from both their differences and similarities.

He performed this at Breakin’ Convention London, a pioneering hip-hop theatre festival, in May 2024. This was very well received.

Attitudes Thanks to Until the Quiet Comes, Lloydscompany nominated Ibrah Jackson for the Creative Europe Project Attitudes. The jury was enthusiastic and now Ibrah may participate in Attitudes for two years with dancers Juan and Angel. In the process, he will further develop his work The Hereditary and perform in six countries: Kampnagel in Hamburg (DE), Dansekapellet in Copenhagen (DK), Malmö Dance Week in Malmö (SE), Norrlandsoperan in Umeå (SE) and at the HOP Festival in Barcelona (ES).
