Heavy Hitters in duet: A Cor Vermelha

Two breakdancers from the Heavy Hitters explore the cultural differences and similarities between migrants and natives in a physical theatre duet. Dancers Tim and Diogo discover and show discomfort, ego and pain in the process of understanding and acceptance. They do this through a mix of comic scenes, physical confrontations and moments of harmony.

The Heavy Hitters are the top talents of the Haags Hiphop Centrum (H3C). In 2023, this breakdance group won the Piket Art Prize. Diogo entered the break scene in 2008 and has also developed in house and locking for a number of years. He now coaches the next generation of breakers from The Hague. Tim started in the break scene a year later. His work is a mix of break, contemporary dance and physical theatre.

Dancemovie “Where the Stone Waits for Me” from Julius Hulshof

This film brings together experimental dance, landscapes and drone music together. Three dancers interact with the rough landscape of the Icelandic highlands. Their introverted movements reveal a silent surrender and a longing for the same quality that the rock embodies.

The dancers in the film are Amir Zakirov (Kazakhstan), Oscar Starink (NL) and Julius Hulshof. The latter is responsible for direction, production, camera and editing. Julius Hulshof is a dancer and visual artist. He is inspired by landscapes and loves ambient and experimental music.

W.I.P LAB 2025 presents: The Soul of Dominique

Together we celebrate life. This performance shows what it feels like to be completely in the moment and in ecstasy. All your senses are stimulated by five dancers: Mia Bourhis, Ivan Tocchetti, Björn Bakker, Kseniia Serykh and Lulu Verstegen.

‘The Soul of Dominique’ gives hope, which is what choreographers Robin Kroes and Remy Tilburg are always looking for. These choreographers guide recently graduated dancers to the work field in the W.I.P. LAB platform of IID Company. This annual program guides them to critically examine habits and learned dance practices and to explore new artistic possibilities. ‘The Soul of Dominique’ was created with collaboration partners Lugar Futuro Festival & Dansateliers.

Sorry for the inconvenience by Thea Atladóttir

In this solo, this Icelandic dancer, choreographer and producer takes you into the friction between external and internal expectations. In this raw and vulnerable performance, Thea investigates where her insecurities come from. She shows the audience the tension between authenticity and perfectionism.

In the work of Thea Atladóttir, discomfort often plays a central role. In this, she challenges dance norms through silence and human imperfection. This Rotterdam native is attracted to the tension between the audience and the performers. She uses humour, discomfort and the unpredictability of the body as tools for reflection. Atladóttir graduated from the Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance (2019) and has worked with The Iceland Dance Company.

The Hereditary door Ibrah Jackson

Whether the father is present or absent: deep-rooted, toxic masculinity is passed down from generation to generation. Two young black men from different sides of the world explore this in a physical dialogue. Through hip-hop dance, they share their experiences and learn from their differences and similarities.

The duet was created by Ibrah Jackson and is performed by Juan Jose Markes and Angel Felix. Ibrah Silas Jackson is a director and choreographer from Rotterdam. His background lies in hip-hop, but he has also developed himself in contemporary dance, funk and African dance styles. Ibrah is a dancer at Ghetto Funk Collective and in 2021 also started as a choreographer of theatre pieces. Last year he already performed a preview of The Hereditary at Breakin’ Convention in London.
