From up-and-coming talents to an award-winning breakdance group, and from innovative choreography to spoken word and a short film: on Friday 23 May, choreographer Lloyd Marengo will present a diverse range of talents and art forms at Lloydscompany Presents. This time, the event forms part of the wonderful ten-day CaDance festival at the Korzo Theatre in The Hague.

HEAVY HITTERS IN DUET: THE COLOUR RED

Two breakdancers from the Heavy Hitters explore the cultural differences and similarities between migrants and native-born people in a physical theatre duet. Tim and Diogo discover and portray discomfort, ego and pain in the process of understanding and acceptance. They do this through a mix of comic scenes, physical confrontations and moments of harmony.

The Heavy Hitters are the top talents from the Hague Hip Hop Centre (H3C). In 2023, this breakdance group won the Piket Art Prize. Diogo entered the breakdancing scene in 2008 and has since developed his skills in house and locking over the past few years. He is now coaching the next generation of breakdancers in The Hague. Tim joined the breakdancing scene a year later. His work is a blend of breakdancing, contemporary dance and physical theatre.

DANCE FILM “WHERE THE STONE WAITS FOR ME” BY JULIUS HULSHOF

This film brings together experimental dance, landscapes and drone music. In it, three dancers interact with the rugged landscape of the Icelandic highlands. Their introverted movements reveal a quiet surrender and a longing for the very quality embodied by the rock.

The dancers in the film are Amir Zakirov (Kazakhstan), Oscar Starink (Netherlands) and Julius Hulshof. The latter is responsible for direction, production, cinematography and editing. Julius Hulshof is a dancer and visual artist. He is inspired by landscapes and loves ambient and experimental music.

ARDJOSEMITO-JETHOE

You’ll also be treated to a spoken-word performance on diversity by Siela Ardjosemito-Jethoe. She has previously performed at SWOON, PaginaGroots, Woorden Worden Zinnen, Mama’s Open Mic (BE), The Poetry Lounge (US) and in productions such as Women’s Voices, Sacred Songs and Icons O Rotterdam. Her work is characterised by love and multilingualism.

W.I.P LAB 2025 PRESENTS: THE SOUL OF DOMINIQUE

Together, we celebrate life. This performance shows what it feels like to be completely in the moment and in a state of ecstasy. All your senses are stimulated by five dancers: Mia Bourhis, Ivan Tocchetti, Björn Bakker, Kseniia Serykh and Lulu Verstegen.

‘The Soul of Dominique’ offers hope, something that choreographers Robin Kroes and Remy Tilburg are always seeking. Through IID Company’s W.I.P. LAB platform, these choreographers mentor recent dance graduates as they enter the professional world. This annual programme guides them in critically examining habits and established dance practices, whilst exploring new artistic possibilities. ‘The Soul of Dominique’ was created in collaboration with Lugar Futuro Festival & Dansateliers.

DOOR THE ATLADÓTTIR

In this solo piece, this Icelandic dancer, choreographer and producer takes you on a journey through the tension between external and internal expectations. In this raw and vulnerable performance, Thea explores the origins of her insecurities. She reveals to the audience the tension between authenticity and perfectionism.

Discomfort is often central to Thea Atladóttir’s work. She challenges dance conventions through silence and human imperfection. This Rotterdam-based artist is drawn to the tension between the audience and the performers. She uses humour, discomfort and the unpredictability of the body as tools for reflection. Atladóttir graduated from the Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance (2019) and has worked with The Iceland Dance Company.

THE HEREDITARY DOOR IBRAH JACKSON

Whether the father is present or absent, deep-rooted, toxic masculinity is passed down from generation to generation. Two young Black men from different parts of the world explore this through a physical dialogue. Through hip-hop dance, they share their experiences and learn from their differences and similarities.

The duet was created by Ibrah Jackson and is performed by Juan Jose Markes and Angel Felix. Ibrah Silas Jackson is a director and choreographer from Rotterdam. His background lies in hip-hop, but he has also developed his skills in modern dance, funk and African dance styles. Ibrah is a dancer with the Ghetto Funk Collective and, in 2021, also began working as a choreographer for theatre productions. Last year, he presented a preview of *The Hereditary* at *Breakin’ Convention* in London.

ELISE RICHARDS

The evening will be hosted by Elise Richards: she is a dancer, but has also found her talent as an interviewer and presenter. She represents the Ghetto Funk Family and is always keen to bring people together!
