Lloyd Marengo

Lloyd Marengo is a living hip-hop legend in Rotterdam and beyond

His own tile on Nieuwe Binnenweg is proof of that.

Lloyd Marengo was born in Rotterdam in 1973. He encountered breakdance as a young boy in the early 1980s. At seventeen, he performed his first act with the group 'DCO'. Performing in clubs and dancing in the streets, he became increasingly interested in the hip-hop scene.

His first venture:
He needed a place where like-minded people could come together. So, in 1996, he launched his own company, "Twilight," where like-minded people could collaborate with dance, music, and graffiti. Two years later, the group 010Bboys was formed. They started performing in community centers and clubs, soon followed by large corporate events and festivals. Here, Lloyd developed as a dancer and later as a choreographer. In 2002, he co-founded Hiphophuis in Rotterdam.

From dance to choreography.
From 1999, he danced with the Scapino Ballet and Conny Jansen. At the 2004 Act Festival, Lloyd first had the opportunity to showcase his talent as a choreographer with the performance "French Connection." Via Lantaren/Venster's Kitchenette and Theater Company Amsterdam's Don't Hit Mama in 2010, he reached the next level of his career. There, he created two performances with world-class b-boys: the duet "Tag" and "Father Father." This performance was the first to be performed in the Netherlands at the hip-hop festival Breakin' Convention. He was followed by the productions "Loud!" and "Mind Ur Step." Lloyd Marengo made such a splash in the scene that he was asked to choreograph for the TV program "So You Think You Can Dance."

He has become so well-known and experienced that he now acts as a coach. He mentors various dancers and emerging artists, including Pim Jansen, Sheyda Darab, Luciano Jackson, Sheree Lenting, Redo Ait Chitt, and Justen Beer. Lloyd is also responsible for the choreography of the performance B-Boy (Maas Theater en Dans).

Lloydscompany

In September 2022, Lloyd Marengo won the Golden Swan for his undeniable dedication to the community. In the fall of 2022, he created the children's show Sribi Switi, followed in 2023 by Unbreakable, featuring the South African dance hit Soweto Skeleton Movers. Unbreakable premiered at the Breakin' Convention in London (late April 2023). The second children's show, Klein, klein vogeltje (Three Little Birds), followed in 2025.
