Ibrah Silas Jackson is developing further.

Ibrah Silas Jackson and Lloydscompany continue to collaborate on his development with the support of the Cultural Participation Fund. Ibrah is a talented young dancer, emerging choreographer, and filmmaker. We've been mentoring Ibrah for a year and a half now. Lloydscompany sees Ibrah as a future maker who will add a lot to the Dutch field, as long as he receives the right tools, knowledge, and guidance to develop. That's why we're happy to be able to offer Ibrah another mentoring program.

Body control, musicality, and bold subjects

"I know Ibrah as a hard worker and a talented dancer and creator who is eager to learn," says Lloyd Marengo. I noticed this back in 2016 at the R&R Summer School, and now he dances with the Ghetto Funk Collective, one of the best collectives in the world. His body control and musicality are very strong, and he has an eye for how everything looks. He also deals with daring subjects.

COACHING

Lloyd Marengo (choreographer and artistic director) and Jade Schiff (business manager) of Lloydscompany are Ibrah's main coaches. He also receives support from other coaches in the fields of film, choreography, and marketing. The coaching focusses on deepening his artistic signature and filmmaking/directing, creating longer productions, learning dance styles from Uganda, and reaching his own audience.

TELLING STORIES ABOUT A BLACK MAN

Additionally, Ibrah is conducting artistic research, taking dance classes, and making a dance film in his home country, Uganda. Here, Ibrah is working with local choreographers on a crossover between hip-hop, the style he grew up with, and Ugandan dance styles, the styles of his roots. Before and after his project, Ibrah also engages in conversations with his audience and shares his experiences with other young creators and dancers. "I want to tell my stories from my experience as a Black man and in that way make a positive contribution to society," says Ibrah.

SHOW ON THE MAAS PODIUM

The result of this journey is a performance at Maas Theatre and Dance. Here he will show his dance film and a longer version of the short performance "Until The Quiet Comes".

IBRAH SILAS JACKSON

Ibrah Silas Jackson (born 2000) is a director and choreographer from Rotterdam with roots in Uganda. His work is rooted in hip-hop culture, but he also draws inspiration from modern, funk, and African styles. The core of his work consists of telling stories about the "experience of the young Black man" through visual art and movement. In 2024, he created the short performance "Unravel Threads" as part of VIERxVIER by Theatre aan de Rijn and toured the Netherlands with it. And with his explosive duet The Hereditary about "toxic masculinity," Ibrah has reached international theatre stages, including Breakin' Convention London, Kampnagel Hamburg, Summerdanceforever, Malmo Dance Week, Afrovibes Festival, and San Francisco International Hip Hop DanceFest.
