Lloydscompany presents in The Hague: a duet by the Heavy Hitters, spoken word, a dance film, and more.

From new talent to an award-winning breakdance group, and from innovative choreography to spoken word and a short film: on Friday, May 23rd, choreographer Lloyd Marengo will present a diversity of talents and art forms during Lloyd's Company Presents. This time, this presentation is part of the wonderful ten-day CaDance festival at the Korzo Theatre in The Hague. Make sure you're there and enjoy an unforgettable experience!

Lloydscompany Presents presents the following performances:

HEAVY HITTERS IN A DUET: A COR VERMELHA

Two breakdancers from the Heavy Hitters explore the cultural differences and similarities between migrants and native-born people in a physical theatre duet. Dancers Tim and Diogo explore and reveal discomfort, ego, and pain in the process of understanding and acceptance. They do this through a mix of comedic scenes, physical confrontations, and moments of harmony.

The Heavy Hitters are the top talents from the Hague Hip Hop Centre (H3C). In 2023, this breakdance group won the Piket Kunstprijs. Diogo entered the break scene in 2008 and also developed in house and locking for a number of years. He is now coaching the next generation of breakers from The Hague. Tim started in the break scene a year later. His work is a mix of breakdancing, contemporary dance, and physical theatre.

DANSFILM “WHERE THE STONE WAITS FOR ME” VAN JULIUS HULSHOF

SPOKEN WORD BY SIELA ARDJOSEMITO-JETHOE

You'll also be treated to a spoken word performance about diversity by Siela Ardjosemito-Jethoe. Previously, she could be heard at SWOON, PaginaGroots, Woorden Worden Zinnen, Mama's Open Mic (BE), The Poetry Lounge (US), Women's Voices, Sacred Songs, and Icons O Rotterdam. Her work is characterised by love and multilingualism.

W.I.P LAB 2025 PRESENTS: THE SOUL OF DOMINIQUE

Together, we celebrate life. This performance shows what it feels like to be completely in the moment and in ecstasy. All your senses are stimulated by five dancers: Mia Bourhis, Ivan Tocchetti, Björn Bakker, Kseniia Serykh, and Lulu Verstegen.

'The Soul of Dominique' offers hope, something choreographers Robin Kroes and Remy Tilburg are always looking for. These choreographers guide recent dance graduates into the professional field through IID Company's W.I.P. LAB platform. This annual program guides them to critically examine their habits and learnt dance practices and explore new artistic possibilities. 'The Soul of Dominique' was created in collaboration with Lugar Futuro Festival & Dansateliers.

Sorry for the inconvenience, Door Thea Atladóttir.

In this solo, this Icelandic dancer, choreographer, and producer takes you into the friction between external and internal expectations. In this raw and vulnerable performance, Thea explores where her insecurities come from. She shows the audience the tension between authenticity and perfectionism.

Discomfort often plays a central role in Thea Atladóttir's work. In this, she challenges dance norms through silence and human imperfection. This Rotterdam native is drawn to the tension between the audience and the performers. She uses humour, discomfort, and the unpredictability of the body as instruments for reflection. Atladóttir graduated from the Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance (2019) and has worked with The Iceland Dance Company.

The Hereditary Door, Ibrah Jackson

Whether the father is present or absent: deeply ingrained, toxic masculinity is passed down from generation to generation. Two young Black men from different parts of the world explore this in a physical dialogue. Through hip-hop dance, they share their experiences and learn from their differences and similarities.

The duet was created by Ibrah Jackson and is performed by Juan Jose Markes and Angel Felix. Ibrah Silas Jackson is a director and choreographer from Rotterdam. His background is in hip-hop, but he has also developed in contemporary dance, funk, and African dance styles. Ibrah is a dancer with the Ghetto Funk Collective and in 2021 also started as a choreographer for theatre productions. Last year, he already previewed The Hereditary at Breakin' Convention in London.

ELISE RICHARDS

The hostess for this evening is Elise Richards: she will connect all the performances with her charm. She is a dancer and a hostess. She represents the Ghetto Funk Family and is always enthusiastic about making connections!
