LloydsCompany mentors Amira Al Rawi.

Project period: 01 Oct 2019 to 01 Nov 2020

LloydsCompany is mentoring Amira Al Rawi in her Urban Talent trajectory with the Cultural Participation Fund (Fonds Cultuurparticipatie).

Amira is a driven young dancer and theatre maker. In Arabic, rawi means “storyteller,” and Amira truly lives up to that name. Through her theatre works, she tells stories of individuals moving within communities. She translates and narrates, while responding to and reflecting on social issues.

Amira is known for her authentic style, in which she brings together various dance styles, including waacking and voguing.

With her background as a pedagogical professional in youth care, she teaches special target groups, such as children with disabilities. She also coaches young professionals in creating safe learning environments where everyone feels welcome and celebrated.

As a performing dancer, she explores the safe spaces of the LGBTQ+ community and appears at various events.

Amira is currently studying International Arts and Culture Studies at Erasmus University and is doing an internship at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), where she works on diversity and inclusion in arts and culture policy.

Through LloydsCompany, we are guiding Amira in her FCP Urban Talent trajectory. Part of this development program is the creation of her new solo performance Laya, for which she receives coaching from Leo Spreksel and Lloyd Marengo. The premiere will take place on 1 October at Maas Podium. Keep an eye on our socials for more information!
