Breakdancing in Rotterdam is 40 years old, and this was celebrated with an exhibition and a 4-part documentary series on OPEN Rotterdam. Lloydscompany had joined forces with DIG IT UP and break scene icon, Maikel Walker. With this collaboration, we paid homage to the dance form and everything surrounding it: music, locations, and clothing.

About the Breakin' Rotterdam Expo

Rotterdam first encountered breakdancing in 1980. With 40 years of practice, Rotterdam has a rich history when it comes to breaking. Not only do world champions Paolo Nunes and Menno Van Gorp come from Rotterdam, but the world-renowned event International Breaking Event and the Hip Hop House also originated here.

Breakin' Rotterdam looks back on 4 decades, each representing a generation with unique moves, practice spots, and figureheads.
