Ibrah Jackson presents his latest three works during FRESH at the MAASPodium in Rotterdam. FRESH is a platform for young people with big ideas. Every FRESH Friday, a different talent shapes a full-length programme.

Ibrah Silas Jackson (2000) is a dancer, director and choreographer from Rotterdam with roots in Uganda. The basis in his creations is hip-hop culture, but he has also gained knowledge of various movement disciplines such as modern, funky and African cultural styles. At the core of his work is storytelling with visual art and movement. Ibrah Jackson is a dancer, choreographer and director who is mentored by Lloydcompany as a new creator. This is how he created The Hereditary with our support.

The Hereditary   Whether the father is present or absent: deep-rooted, toxic masculinity is passed down from generation to generation. Two young black men from different sides of the world explore this in a physical dialogue. With hip-hop dance, they share their experiences and learn from their differences and similarities.

Unseen In this short film, the thoughts of a black, depressed and addicted teenager chase him out of his apartment/comfort zone into the outside world, where time is running backwards - but he is not. He is looking for a way out of everything, but finds it incredibly scary. During his journey through the city, he meets strangers. They are reflections of his depression and addiction that constantly attack him and force him to self-reflect.

Until the quiet Comes A young man of colour faces many expectations: from society, his peers and himself. This dance performance is a vivid quest through the past where choices have already been made, through the present where “you are who you are” to the future that carries expectations.

Choreographer Ibrah Jackson created this performance with the dancers of Create4. A short version of Until The Quiet Comes premiered in 2024 at Old Luxor during Breakin' Convention NL. At Maaspodium, Ibrah will present the fleshed-out version together with Create4 for the first time.
