Ibrah Silas Jackson is developing further at Lloydscompany.

Ibrah Silas Jackson and Lloydscompany are allowed to continue working together on his growth with the support of the Fonds Cultuurparticipatie. Ibrah is a young talented dancer, up-and-coming choreographer, and film director. We've been mentoring Ibrah for a year and a half. Lloydscompany sees Ibrah as a future creator who will add a lot to the Dutch field, as long as he receives the right tools, knowledge, and guidance to develop. That's why we're happy to be able to offer Ibrah another guidance program.

Body control, musicality, and bold topics

"I know Ibrah as a hard worker and talented dancer and creator who is very eager to learn," says Lloyd Marengo. I've noticed this since the R&R Summerschool in 2016, and now he's dancing with the Ghetto Funk Collective, one of the best collectives worldwide. His body control and musicality are very strong, and he has an eye for how everything looks. He also deals with daring topics.

COACHING

Lloyd Marengo (choreographer and artistic director) is the head coach of Ibrah's Lloydscompany, along with Jade Schiff (business manager). Additionally, he receives support from other coaches in the fields of film, choreography, and marketing. The coaching focuses on deepening his artistic signature and filmmaking/directing, creating longer productions, learning dance styles from Uganda, and reaching his own audience.

TELLING STORIES OF A BLACK MAN

Additionally, Ibrah is conducting artistic research, taking dance classes, and making a dance film in his country of origin, Uganda. Here, Ibrah is working with local choreographers on the crossover between hip-hop, the style he grew up with, and Ugandan dance styles, the styles of his roots. Ibrah will also engage in conversations with his audience before and after his journey, sharing his experiences from this process with other young creators and dancers. "I want to tell my stories from my experience as a Black man and in that way make a positive contribution to society," says Ibrah.

SHOW AT MAASPODIUM

The result of this process is a show at Maas Theatre and Dance. Here he will show his dance film and a longer version of the short performance "Until The Quiet Comes."

IBRAH SILAS JACKSON

Ibrah Silas Jackson (born 2000) is a director and choreographer from Rotterdam with roots in Uganda. The foundation of his work lies in hip-hop culture, but he also draws inspiration from modern, funk, and African styles. The core of his work consists of telling stories about "The Young Black Man Experience" through visual art and movement. In 2024, he created the short performance "Unravel Threads" as part of Theatre aan de Rijn's VIERxVIER and toured the Netherlands with it. And with his explosive duet "The Hereditary" about "toxic masculinity," Ibrah has already reached international theatre stages: including Breakin' Convention London, Kampnagel Hamburg, Summerdanceforever, and Malmo Dance Week, Afrovibes Festival, and San Francisco International Hip Hop DanceFest.
