'Small, small bird nominated for Young Swan'
'Little, little bird' has been nominated for the Young Swan Dance Production 2025. This theatre and dance performance is an idea by Giorgio Costa and was created under the banner of Lloydscompany. The tour was originally scheduled to end in late May 2025, but has already been extended due to its success. Dancers Giorgio Costa, Remses Rafaela, and Pom Arnold have now enchanted children 44 times with their hip-hop and breakdance, acrobatics, imagination, and play.
Costa, choreographer of and dancer in 'Little, little bird', is thrilled. Five years ago, I heard about the existence of this award. In every production I danced in after that, I hoped I would win. I manifested this at the beginning of this year for 'Little, Little Bird'. And now I'm nominated! Not for someone else's choreography, but for my own! That it's seen this way... I'm honoured."
THE YOUNG SWAN DANCE PRODUCTION
De Jonge Zwaan Dance Production is part of the VSCD Dance Awards. These are awarded annually to the best dancers and dance productions in the Netherlands during the Dutch Dance Days. The winner is chosen by the VSCD Dance Jury, which consists of Joery Wilbers (manager of Rozet cultural center Arnhem and former director of De Domijnen), John Agesilas (co-artistic director of Summer Dance Forever and Hip-Hop Academy, teacher at AHK), Wendy Lubberding (dance and theatre critic), Mitchell-Lee van Rooij (marketer at Korzo), Julie Vegter (dance programmer at Vondelpark Open Air Theatre and editorial board member of Julidans), Dave Schwav (head of programming and dramaturge at Theatre Rotterdam), and Lynn Bartels (programmer and artistic core teacher of dance and theatre at De Meervaart).
The VSCD Dance Jury calls 'Klein, klein vogeltje' a "imaginative performance." They write that the dancers "manage to strike a good balance between exciting and safe, with the camaraderie between the three boys and the audience playing an important role." The dancers are fantastically in sync, and their original and surprising hip-hop moves are completely integrated into the story, such as in the wide variety of flying movements Raffie tries to make, later helped by the brothers giving him a lift. This beautifully expresses the theme of freedom and daring to dream and fantasise."
The presentation of the Swans takes place during the Dutch Dance Days festival at Theatre aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht. This year, the Gala of the Dutch Dance Days will be on Friday, October 3, 2025. The winners will receive a bronze sculpture created by choreographer and visual artist Toer van Schayk.
LITTLE, LITTLE BIRD
In a performance full of tricks, hip-hop and breakdance, acrobatics, and acting, the audience goes on an adventure with two brothers. On a warm day, they are allowed to camp in their parents' backyard, which in their imagination transforms into a vast forest. As evening falls, the brothers hear strange noises and meet a strange new friend...
'Little, Little Bird' is about a boy who wants to be a bird and receives support from an unexpected source. The performance tells a story about friendship and believing in what you can become.
The performance will be playing at festivals such as the Boulevard Theatre Festival and the De Betovering Festival this summer and autumn, as well as in a few theatres. See the full playlist at www.lloydscompany.nl/agenda. After that, the show will return to theatres from February through April 2027.
